Long ago, two neighbors lived side by side in a village. One of the two neighbors was a retired school teacher and the other was an insurance company agent. Both had a very good and cordial relationship. An insurance company agent, he was very interested in technology.

Both of them had a yard in front of their house. One day the two consulted and decided to plant a garden in front of their house yard.

As per decision they started gardening. In the garden they planted various seasonal vegetables, fruits and flowers. The gardens were side by side as the houses were side by side and there was a garden in front of the house.

But the gardening styles of the two were different. The gentleman, a retired teacher, only watered the plants sparingly and did not pay much attention to them. On the other hand, his neighbor, the insurance agent, watered the plants in his garden well and took good care of them.

The trees in the retired teacher's garden were ordinary looking, but good looking. On the other hand, the trees in the insurance agent's garden looked luscious and greener. One night, suddenly a very storm started. The wind was blowing hard. The next morning when the two neighbors went out to their garden, they saw two opposite images in the two gardens. All the trees in the insurance agent's garden were uprooted by the wind, and the whole garden was destroyed. But none of the trees in the school teacher's garden were harmed at all. The trees in his garden are standing as before.

The insurance agent was almost stunned by the situation. He then ran to his neighbor, a retired teacher. He went and said, We planted the same tree in each other's garden at the same time. I take better care of my garden plants than you do, and water more. Even so, my plants have roots going up, while yours has nothing. How is that possible?

The retired teacher neighbor then replied with a gentle smile, You have paid more attention to your plants, watered them more. Because of this the plants did not have to do any work for themselves. You have made everything easy for them. On the other hand, I watered the plants less and allowed the plants to search for more water on their own, causing the plants to grow deeper and stronger. Because of this the trees survived, were not uprooted by storms or winds.

If we get something easily, then our condition is like those uprooted trees.

If someone gets something easily through someone else then he doesn't realize how much hard work is required to achieve that thing. They will never learn to work for themselves and have no respect for hard work.

In adverse situations, they cannot fight their own battles. So, it is often more beneficial to guide people than to give them something.
